Be that Woman – Mythological Symbol
December 9 – December 31, 2023

The photography exposition “OttoperOtto. Eight photographers – Eight stories comes to an end with the final exhibition, Be that Woman – Mythological Symbol by Donatella Donatelli. The opening of the exhibition will take place on Saturday, December 9th, 2023, at 5:30 pm at the Archeologica section of the Palazzo della Cultura.

This photography exhibition showcases fourteen unknown women whose faces, through symbolic elements, embody twelve iconic figures within contemporary imagination.

Currently, the noun “myth” and the adjective “mythical” are often used to describe a person or character who, in the sociological sense, has become an icon conveying a message through imagery. The photography exhibition aims to pay tribute to women who can embody various figurative forms. The female myth, evoked by the photographs on display, draws inspiration from antiquity. Through a new photographic interpretation, the exhibition renews the concept underlying stardom, providing feminine references in which every woman, as in mythology, can recognize herself.

The exhibition Be that Woman – Mythological Symbol proposes a new iconographic universe in which women are not only associated with beauty and maternity but also symbolize strength, wisdom, diversity, hospitality, multi-ethnicity, and tolerance.

During the time the exhibition is on display, two additional events are scheduled.

On December 15th at 5:30 pm, the presentation of the book “La danza degli gnomi e le altre fiabe” will take place. The book features a collection of photographs by Donatella Donatelli, who, through digital alteration, visually transposes twelve fairy tales, authored by Guido Gozzano, into the contemporary context.

On December 28th at 5:30 pm, photographer Donatella Donatelli will present her exhibition catalogue “Be that Woman. Mitologia contemporanea”. During the event, discussions will delve into themes connected to the artist’s project, exploring the role of women in contemporary society across different cultures and tracing their evolution throughout history.

Alongside the artist, authors who have contributed to the exhibition catalogue will also take part in the event.
